Hickory View Farms: Jonathan and Janna Bastian

A Big Year

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!  As we begin 2020, we want to take a moment to say thank you to all of you, our loyal supporters!

As you now, 2019 was a big year for Jonathan and myself.  We took the idea of having a small farm market business and made it a reality.  We also took a passion for cut flowers and became first year flower farmers!  We started with formalizing our plan to sell Heyler Farms beef, as well as connecting with Shuey Farms to purchase beef from them.  Over the summer we added the option of purchasing cuts of beef, in addition to shares.  We also started selling cut flower bouquets.  With the cut flowers, we were able to provide flowers for special events: a wedding, a bridal shower, and a 40th birthday party.  In the fall we were also able to start offering local pork cuts and shares to our meat selection!  October brought the opportunity for us to participate in a local cooking competition through Evangelical Community Hospital, Cookin’ with Men.  This provided an opportunity to use our beef as we showcased “Ballpark Favorites: Nachos with Queso”.  This event was done to not only give local chefs a platform for their culinary skills, but also as a fundraiser for the Thyra M. Humphry Breast Center.  As breast cancer is a diagnosis that has personally impacted our family, (Janna’s mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and after surgery and radiation she is cancer free) we were excited to be a part of this event!

There were a lot of hours spent on the behind the scenes business end of starting and running a business.  And I would like to take a moment to just give a huge shout out to Jonathan for being the brains behind the technology end of Hickory View Farms.  He has spent hours creating our website, designing logos, custom designing shirts, and figuring out all of the paperwork that needs to be done!

As we enter into 2020 we are so excited to see what all is in store for Hickory View Farms!  We are going to continue to offer both cuts and shares of beef and pork.  And as for the cut flowers, we are planning on expanding not only the volume of flowers that we grow, but also the varieties that we plant.  2020 is truly going to be a learn as we go year for the flowers as we are going to be planting a lot that we have personally never grown before!  Even though it’s a bit intimidating, we are so excited about this!!  We will continue to offer fresh cut bouquets as well as providing flowers and arrangements for special events.  We are already booked for one wedding which is extremely exciting for us!

We would not be where we are today without all of you!  Thank you for your endless support!  We appreciate your purchases, reviews, social media shares and likes, advertising, and all of your encouragement!  Please continue to reach out to us if there are other things that you would like to see Hickory View Farms offer, we are open to ideas and suggestions!

2020 holds some big things for Hickory View Farms.  We are inching closer to making a big announcement.  Stay tuned throughout the year to see what all is in store!!!!

Thanks for reading,

Janna
